Thank you for visiting my website. I am John Linwood, I live in London, I am married and have a daughter and two sons.

My parents moved from the UK to Africa before I was born and so I spent my childhood in Africa (Zimbabwe) until the age of 20 when I moved to the UK.

In my spare time (!!) I enjoy flying (I have my PPL to fly helicopters), am completely passionate about photography, like gadgets, love cars, I am a member of Mensa, quite handy at carpentry, love reading * and try to stay fit (I use the term "fit" very loosely - which is more that I can say for my clothing!) by working out in the gym and swimming. I dabble in electronics development and microprocessors and love cool technology - e.g. we have 3 wireless networks in the house for the 6 PCs, 3 Apple Macs, 2 PocketPC's, various xBoxes/PSP's/Playstations/iphones..., and a partridge in a pear tree!.

I have recently been appointed as Chief Technology Officer for the BBC (http://bbc.co.uk).  Previously I was Senior Vice President of International Engineering at Yahoo! (http://yahoo.com) for 5 years, managing software and service engineering teams in 20 countries across 5 continents. Before that I was with Microsoft for over 10 years (mostly with MSN).

My childhood ambition was to be a veterinary surgeon (blame James Herriot books) however I became passionate about technology and ended up in the software industry. I started out as a software developer mumble years ago (we were called computer programmers in those days!) and have been in the IT industry since.

Please feel free to take a look around my site (click on the links in the bar on the left) and let me know what you think.

*To be honest I don't find as much time for reading as I would like so I listen to a lot of books downloaded from Audible.com when I am driving. It makes the London traffic far less taxing.
